Green Line interchanges with the Red Line
There are two, and both are underground.
Union (G20). One of the biggest metro stations in the world by area, Union sits under Deira. The Green Line platforms are on a different level from the Red Line ones, so allow three to five minutes to change at busy times. You stay inside the paid area, so there is no need to tap out.
BurJuman (G26). In Bur Dubai, next to BurJuman Mall. It is usually less crowded than Union, and it is the better change point if you are coming from Sheikh Zayed Road and heading for Al Fahidi or Oud Metha.
Our view: from the airport or Deira, change at Union. From Downtown, Business Bay or the Marina, change at BurJuman. It saves you a few stops either way. The full Red Line stations list shows where each line goes from those two points.
Which Green Line station for popular places?
Going to | Get off at | Tip |
Gold Souk | Gold Souq | Exit towards Old Baladiya Street |
Spice Souk | Al Ras | Five-minute walk to the souk lanes |
Abra across Dubai Creek | Al Ghubaiba or Al Ras | Both are close to abra stations |
Al Fahidi historical district | Sharaf DG | Station name still confuses visitors |
Wafi City, Dubai Healthcare City | Dubai Healthcare City | Short walk |
Dubai Festival City | Creek, then abra | Abra from Al Jaddaf marine station |
DXB Terminal 2 | Dubai Airport Free Zone | Then a short taxi or bus ride |
Al Qusais, Al Nahda (residential) | Al Qusais or Al Nahda | Popular with Sharjah commuters |
Etisalat bus station | e& | Feeder and intercity buses |
Gold Souq station is underground; take the exit signposted for the souk.
Underground stations and what that means for you
The eight underground stations run from Salah Al Din to BurJuman, under some of Dubai’s densest and oldest streets. Two practical points follow.
First, the escalators are long, and at Union and BurJuman you may walk a fair distance between platform and street. With heavy bags, look for the lifts, which RTA says are available at every metro station level.
Second, phone signal holds up fine. RTA states there is mobile coverage and Wi-Fi across the network, including the tunnels.
Green Line for Sharjah commuters
The north end of the line is where many Sharjah residents join it. e& station has a large free park-and-ride car park. Drivers from Sharjah often park there, take the Green Line to Union, and change to the Red Line for Sheikh Zayed Road.
The parking is free only if you use the metro, and you must leave within 60 minutes of your last trip. Stay longer, or skip the metro, and charges apply. The full rules are in our free metro parking guide.
Al Qusais and Al Nahda stations are also within reach of the Sharjah border, though the walk or bus link depends on exactly where you live.
Common Green Line mistakes
Getting off at the wrong “Fahidi”. Sharaf DG station used to be called Al Fahidi. Many maps and older guides still use the old name. If you want the historical district, Sharaf DG is your stop.
Expecting the Green Line at Terminal 1 or 3. It doesn’t go there. Those terminals are on the Red Line. The Green Line only gets you near Terminal 2.
Missing the late Sunday start. Like the Red Line, the Green Line opens at 8 am on Sundays. Early shoppers heading to the souks on Sunday morning sometimes find the gates shut.
Drinking water on the platform. It feels harmless in the heat, but eating and drinking are banned past the gates, with an AED 100 fine. See the full list in Dubai Metro rules and fines.
Fares on the Green Line
Fares work by zone, as on the rest of the network. A short hop inside one zone costs AED 3 on a Silver nol card or AED 4 on a Red Ticket, and many trips around Deira and Bur Dubai stay in one or two zones. The RTA journey planner shows the exact zones for your trip. Longer trips that continue onto the Red Line cost more.
Exact prices by card are in our Dubai Metro and bus fares guide. If you want a calmer ride, the Gold Class cabin is available on Green Line trains too, at double the fare.
What’s next for the Green Line
The Dubai Metro Blue Line will start at Creek station. RTA has set 9 September 2029 as its opening date. From Creek, it will cross Dubai Creek to Festival City and Dubai Creek Harbour, then run to International City, Silicon Oasis and Academic City.
When that opens, Creek turns from a quiet end station into an interchange. If you are thinking about renting near the south end of the Green Line, that change is worth keeping in mind, though opening dates for big projects can move.
Frequently asked questions
How many stations are on the Dubai Metro Green Line?
The Green Line has 20 stations, numbered G11 (e&) to G30 (Creek). Twelve are elevated and eight are underground. The underground section runs from Salah Al Din through Union, Gold Souq and Al Ghubaiba to BurJuman, beneath Deira and Bur Dubai.
Where does the Green Line start and end?
It runs between e& station in Al Qusais and Creek station in Al Jaddaf. e& was called Etisalat until February 2023. Creek is next to the Al Jaddaf marine station, where you can catch an abra across to Dubai Festival City. It will also become a Blue Line interchange.
Where can I change from the Green Line to the Red Line?
At Union (G20) or BurJuman (G26). Both are underground, and you change lines inside the paid area without tapping out. Union is closer to the airport and Deira side, while BurJuman suits trips towards Sheikh Zayed Road, Downtown and the Marina.
Which Green Line station is for the Gold Souk?
Gold Souq station (G22) is the closest. It was called Palm Deira until 2020. Al Ras (G23) is a good alternative if you also want the Spice Souk and the abra across Dubai Creek. Both are underground stations in Deira.
Does the Green Line go to Dubai airport?
Only near Terminal 2. Dubai Airport Free Zone station (G13) is the closest Green Line stop to it, and you need a short taxi or bus ride from there. Terminals 1 and 3 are served by the Red Line, which you can reach by changing at Union.
