Station numbers follow RTA’s tram codes. The first six stations make a loop through the Marina and JBR; from Marina Towers the line heads up Al Sufouh Road.

Tram route map, in words

Picture a lasso. The loop is the Marina: the tram circles JBR, JLT’s edge, Dubai Marina Mall and Marina Walk. The rope is Al Sufouh Road, running north-east past the beach hotels, Media City, the Palm entrance and Knowledge Village to Al Sufouh.

This is why the tram is so handy for the Marina. Most of the big towers are within a few minutes’ walk of a stop. Further up Al Sufouh Road, stops are more spread out and serve offices and hotels more than homes.

For an official map, use the RTA Dubai app or the S’hail journey planner, which also shows live arrival times.

Dubai Tram timings

Day

Hours

Monday to Saturday

6:00 am to 1:00 am (next day)

Sunday

9:00 am to 1:00 am (next day)

Two things are worth knowing.

First, the tram closes an hour after the metro on most nights. If you are leaving JBR at 12:30 am, the tram will run, but the connecting Red Line may already be closed. Plan a taxi for the last leg.

Second, Sunday mornings start late. The tram opens at 9 am, an hour after the metro. Our Dubai Metro timings hub covers both systems on holidays and event days.

Trams run every few minutes at peak times and a little less often off-peak. RTA does not publish a fixed headway on its tram page, so use the live times in the S’hail app.

How much is a tram ride in Dubai?

The tram uses nol cards, like the metro and buses. All tram stations sit in a single fare zone, so most rides are a one-zone fare.

Card

Fare per tram trip

Silver nol card

AED 3

Blue (personal) nol card

AED 3, or less with a concession

Red Ticket

AED 4

Gold card (Gold Class)

AED 6

These follow the zone fares on the RTA nol fares page. Children aged 5 and under ride free.

If your trip continues on the metro or a bus, the fare is worked out for the whole journey. You can transfer between modes within RTA’s time limits without paying a fresh fare each time. Our Dubai Metro and bus fares guide explains how transfers and zones combine.

How to ride the tram

  1. Tap your nol card on the reader at the station before you board. Tram stations have platform screen doors, and you tap at the reader beside them.
  2. Wait behind the screen doors. They open only when the tram is lined up. Dubai was the first tram system in the world to use them, according to RTA.
  3. Board the right cabin. Like the metro, the tram has Gold Class and a women and children section. Check the signs on the doors.
  4. Tap out at your destination.

Platform screen doors keep the cool air in and stop people stepping onto the tracks.

Changing between tram, metro and monorail

Tram to Red Line. Get off at Dubai Marina (stop 5) for Sobha Realty, or JLT (stop 3) for DMCC. Each is linked by a footbridge. You tap out of the tram and tap in at the metro gates. The Red Line stations guide shows where trains go from there.

Which interchange is better? Sobha Realty for trips towards Downtown and the airport, because it is the first of the two on the way into town. DMCC if you are already on the JLT side of the loop.

Tram to Palm Monorail. Get off at Palm Jumeirah (stop 9) and walk to the Palm Gateway monorail station. This is an out-of-station transfer, so allow a few minutes. The monorail is run separately and has its own tickets; check current fares before you go.

Tram safety rules and fines

The tram runs at street level, crossing roads and pavements, so it has extra rules on top of the normal Dubai Metro rules and fines. RTA lists these track fines:

Offence

Fine

Throwing waste on the tracks

AED 500

Crossing the tracks outside designated areas

AED 1,000

Entering prohibited zones

AED 1,000

Interfering with tram operation or safety

AED 2,000

Stopping a tram on the tracks

AED 3,000

For drivers, the risk is real. Since opening, there have been collisions at JBR junctions when cars turned on a red light into the tram’s path. At tram crossings, wait for your own signal, not the one for the next lane.

Inside the tram, the usual rules apply: no eating or drinking (AED 100), no sitting in the wrong cabin (AED 100), and no travel without a fare (AED 200).

When the tram is the better choice

Better than a taxi: short hops around the Marina and JBR in the evening, when traffic on the Marina loop roads is slow. AED 3 beats a minimum taxi fare.

Better than walking: in summer, from June to September, even a 10-minute walk between towers is hard going. The tram’s air-conditioned stations help.

Not the best choice: longer trips along Al Sufouh Road at night after 1 am, or trips to places more than a few minutes from a stop.

Common tram mistakes

Walking in front of the tram. It is quieter than you expect. Use crossings.

Tapping out at the wrong reader. Each station has readers on the platform. Tap before boarding, then again at your destination.

Assuming the metro is still running. At 12:30 am, the tram is, but the metro might not be.

Treating the Palm Jumeirah stop as Atlantis. It is at the Palm entrance. You still need the monorail or a taxi to get up the trunk.

Frequently asked questions

What are the tram timings in Dubai?

The tram runs from 6 am to 1 am the next day, Monday to Saturday. On Sunday it starts later, at 9 am, and still runs until 1 am. These hours stayed the same during Ramadan 2026. RTA can extend them for holidays and events, so check before late trips.

How many tram stations are there in Dubai?

The tram has 11 stations. They run from Jumeirah Beach Residence 1 and 2 around Dubai Marina to Marina Towers, then along Al Sufouh Road through Mina Seyahi, Media City, Palm Jumeirah and Knowledge Village to Al Sufouh, which is the end station.

How much does the tram cost in Dubai?

A tram trip costs AED 3 on a Silver nol card and AED 4 on a Red Ticket. Gold Class costs AED 6 on a Gold card. All tram stations are in one fare zone, so most rides cost the same, and children aged 5 and under travel free with an adult.

Which tram stations connect to the Dubai Metro?

Two tram stations connect to the Red Line. Dubai Marina (stop 5) links to Sobha Realty metro station, and JLT (stop 3) links to DMCC metro station. Both use footbridges. Palm Jumeirah (stop 9) connects to the Palm Monorail at Palm Gateway.

Can I use my nol card on the tram?

Yes. The tram uses the same nol cards and Red Tickets as the metro and buses. Tap at the station reader before boarding and again at your destination. If your balance is low, top up at a metro station or in the nol Pay app before your trip.

Getting around Marina and JBR on the Dubai Tram

The tram is the easiest way to move around the Marina and JBR for AED 3 a ride, with links to the Red Line and the Palm Monorail. Keep the 9 am Sunday start and the 1 am close in mind, and watch the tracks at crossings.

For holiday and Ramadan hours across the network, go to our Dubai Metro timings hub. For buses, abras and taxis, see the Dubai public transport guide, or browse more guides on the Live In Gulf homepage.

Disclaimer: hours, fares and fines come from RTA pages checked in October 2026. RTA can change them at short notice, so confirm on rta.ae or the S’hail app before you travel.
